LaTeX (pronounced ``LAH-tech" or ``LAY-tech") is a type-setting program which allows you to create scientific documents, construct documents that include complex mathematical expressions that are beyond the abilities of your standard work processor application. This is an extremely useful tool to learn as it is used for in the science and engineering fields, journals articles, conference papers, and technical presentations.
Getting and Using LaTeX

Use Online:
- Overleaf in an online website that allows you to create LaTeX documents without having to download anything. It's free, easy to use, and can be accessed from any computer as long as you have internet. This is the one I use when I'm away from my laptop.
- ShareLaTeX is an online website that I have used a little of. Hopefully these two give you some options if you don't want to install LaTeX.
- Detexify is an online website where you can draw a symbol and it will give a list of LaTeX commands that produce similar symbols and the packages needed.

Installing LaTeX:
- For Windows, my favorite thus far, has been TEXnicCenter which works for any version of Windows. You will also need MiKTeX which is a LaTeX distribution for Windows see LaTeX requirements.
- Another option for Windows is ProTeX which is also MikTeX-based.
- For Macs there is MacTeX.
- Texmaker is a cross-platform LaTeX editor for Linux, Mac OSX and Window systems.

Provided are some sample files that will be an easy format for your homework and contain examples on how to create logic symbols, matrices, proofs, code, relation diagrams, summations and product notation, counting commands, function notation and graphing, and some calculus notation.
The .tex file is what you write while the .pdf is the output file. Both the .tex file and the .pdf files are given for you to download and use. These should serve as a good reference and check that your platform for LaTeX is working.
